Thieves have made off with a staggering US413 million 641 million from Stakecom, a cryptocurrency casino co-founded by Australia’s youngest self-made billionaire. The theft was uncovered in the early hours of Tuesday when the blockchain security platform, Cyvers, detected US16 million in suspicious transactions. This was then confirmed by another blockchain analyst, ZACHXBT, who noted an additional US256 million had been stolen. Stakecom is owned by Ed Craven and Bijan Tehrani, and according to its spokesperson, Eamon Gallagher, users do not need to worry - their funds are safe. In response to the theft, Stakecom released a statement saying they had resumed services and all deposits and withdrawals would be processed instantly. The stolen funds were taken from Stakecom's ethereum hot wallet, which is connected to the internet and used for users' payouts. Although some withdrawals were impacted for a couple of hours, Stakecom confirmed there were no losses and that services had resumed. It is thought that the lack of regulatory oversight and scrutiny in the relatively new industry of cryptocurrency exchanges may have made them a popular target for cybercriminals. Stakecom is now investigating the incident with law enforcement authorities in order to recover the stolen funds.

It should be noted that Stakecom is not related to the Australian online sharebroker, Stake.
